Savage Grows Capacity at Bakken Terminal to 175,000 BPD

Bakken Petroleum Services Hub near Trenton, ND expands to meet market demands.

Salt Lake City, UT – April 10, 2014 – Savage announced today the expansion of its crude oil transloading and transportation terminal located near Trenton, ND, with direct connection to BNSF Railway’s main line track. The terminal is strategically located to gather crude oil from the Williston Basin and Bakken Shale and facilitate the transport of crude to key refinery markets. The terminal provides the oil industry with inbound gathering access through truck receiving stations, pipeline connections and crude oil tankage. Outbound delivery of crude oil is served by a double loop track and ladder tracks capable of holding two 118 car unit trains.

The Trenton terminal began full operation in August of 2012. As the production of crude oil in the Bakken region has grown, so has the demand for the services Savage is providing in the area. To meet the needs of its customers, Savage has added the following increased capacity at the terminal:

  • Increased overall throughput capacity of up to 175,000 barrels per day.
  • Increased truck unloading units from 6 to 12 bays.
  • Increased onsite tank storage of up to approximately 450,000 barrels.
  • Added two additional train staging tracks, bringing the terminal to over 50,000 feet of linear track.

“The demand for crude transportation services in the Williston Basin is strong” said Nathan Savage, Senior Vice President, Oil & Gas – Midstream Solutions for Savage. “The capacity we’ve added to the Trenton terminal is in response to the needs of our customers and the market. We are pleased to be able to provide safe, reliable and efficient services that allow oil producers to get their crude to its destination.”

The Savage Bakken Petroleum Services Hub is built on over 270 acres, to accommodate expansion, and is served by BNSF, which enables the flexibility to deliver crude to East Coast, West Coast and Gulf Coast markets. The Pretroleum Services Hub is adjacent to Savage’s pipe logistics facility that offers pipe inspection and repair, pipe threading, hydro-testing along with accurate inventory management, on-time delivery, and infield services to ensure that pipe gets to the well site in “ready-to-run” condition. The terminal operates 24 hours per day, 365 days a year. .
